Why We Pledge

Recent Statistics show that:

  • In 2006, 11 out of every 1,000 children were neglected or abused in California.
  • In 2006, 8 out of every 1,000 children, ages 0-17, were in foster care in California.
  • 100,000 children are abused in California each year and 75,000 children are in foster care
  • 23% of all children in foster care have been in care for more than five years.
  • In California, there is just one counselor/psychologist for every 500 students. The recommended ratio is one counselor for every 250 students.

Every year, the Family Care Network works to provide much needed services to combat many of the above-mentioned statistics. With services such as Therapeutic Foster Care; Family Support Services; Prevention and Early Intervention Services; Transitional Housing Services; and Community-Linked Services, the agency works in collaboration with our community to strengthen and preserve families and individuals.

How You Can Help Us Achieve Our Mission

  • Encourage your friends and family to pledge in your name online at your personalized fundraising page at www.active.com or request a hard copy pledge form by calling (805) 781-3535.
  • As an individual runner, set a goal to raise $100 in pledges.
  • Run with a team of friends/co-workers and set a team goal of $1,000 in pledges.

Our goal is for every Miracle Miles for Kids participant to raise pledges to support foster and high-needs children on the Central Coast. All proceeds earned through pledges at the event will help support direct services that benefit the community’s youth and families!

Every Pledge Counts:

  • $100 buys school supplies and clothing.
  • $500 helps a youth join a sports team or purchase a musical instrument.
  • $1,000 helps furnish an apartment for an older teen about to transition from foster care to adult independence.
